Starting June 13, teleophthalmology (retinal screening for people with diabetes) is available at Black Creek Community Health Centre - Yorkgate Mall. Through the program, patients may receive convenient screening in the local
community. Then, retinal images are sent electronically to ophthalmologists with a retinal specialty for reading and consultation. The ophthalmologists can provide primary care providers with recommendations for continued screening and treatment or referrals to other local health care providers. This program is being launched in the North York West sub-region of the Central LHIN, an area that is recognized for having a higher rate of diabetics compared to the provincial average. The Black Creek Community Health Centre is starting to offer Diabetes Education Programs via community clinics.
